Gari Melchers Home & Studio is a unique and enriching destination for classes, art clubs, homeschoolers, day cares, and scouting groups. We offer art classes and camps throughout the year.
Our Education Department offers interactive programs for groups of 6 or more.
- “Wild About Watercolor” Gari Melchers often painted in watercolor when he was traveling or on vacation. Water-soluble paint is an exciting medium because of its versatility and luminous nature. This program investigates a variety of watercolor painting techniques, and each student will create a masterpiece to take home.
- Spray Art! Students learn to create art without a paintbrush. Spray bottles and droppers are used to “paint” colorful wall hangings. Action art, color mixing, and collaborative mural painting are all explored in this fun and fast-paced project.
- “Create Your Own Garden Sculpture” Gari Melchers’ father, Julius, was a well-known sculptor who served as his son’s first art teacher. Gari and Corinne Melchers enjoyed decorating their Belmont garden with sculpture. This program takes students on a sculpture tour and culminates with everyone creating their own clay sculpture.
$8 per person; minimum group size is 6.
Picnicking on the grounds, hiking our wooded nature paths, and having fun with our outdoor Scavenger Hunt are additional free activities groups can enjoy.
